Once upon a time…okay, so it may not be a fairy tale, but whose life really is? I guess we should start at the beginning. Well, the beginning of “The Stutzman Family” was in January of 1989, when we (Ryan and Heather) said, “I do”. Now it depends which one of us tells the story, because we seem to remember it differently. One of us remembers the other saying, “I promise to love, honor, cherish, pick up my own clothes, and clean once in awhile.” The other remembers it more like, “I promise to obey and make great meals.” In spite of our selective memories and all those who said it wouldn’t last; we are still here, by the grace of God, 20 years later.

We didn’t start out to be singers, but we did start out singing. We grew up together in a little country church and sang together often. But, after the honeymoon, reality set in. Life began to happen and it was easy to get busy with school and jobs. Speaking of jobs, ask Ryan to tell you about some of the jobs he’s had. We made a list a couple of years ago, and it was about as long as a roll of Charmin! Don’t believe us? It included everything from being an airplane mechanic to being a model and many more in between. We spent a lot of time praying and seeking what God wanted for us not only in a job but in ministry. We researched many ministries including jungle aviation, Bible translating and prison ministries, but we never felt God’s peace in those areas. What did seem to be a constant was a love for music.

Now, you’d think being from Indiana (Gaitherland!) that we’d have know all about Southern Gospel music. WRONG! It wasn’t until a gentleman in our area reintroduced it to us with his evening radio program that we realized Southern Gospel wasn’t extinct but was alive and kickin’. We fell in love all over again, this time with music. It had such a message and was sung with such beautiful harmony that we just couldn’t get enough. From there “The Stutzman Family” ministry was born.
